Whitehall
Ferry Terminal
New York, New York
Alexander Isley Inc. was charged with creating a signage program
for this transportation hub of lower Manhattan, including a video
program to work over the slips for the Staten Island Ferry. We
used 12-foot-high illuminated letters (designed to withstand
hurricane-force winds) and developed an interior graphics program
that incorporates directional signage, retail signage, and part
of a poem by Edna St. Vincent Millay (“We were very tired,
we were very merry—We had gone back and forth all night
on the ferry”). In addition, we created a series of short
films that are shown on the exterior of the building, projected
over the ferry slips.
