Our not-
so-hidden agenda:
To engage people’s imaginations, get them thinking, and encourage them to act.

What We Do

Brand strategy, identity development, and communication design for education, entertainment, and enterprise.

We’re known for effective and innovative design that engages people’s imaginations and inspires them to take action. Our firm offers expertise in strategic planning, writing, design, and project management.

What sets us apart is the way in which our work is strategically solid yet able to convey excitement, information, passion, and purpose. All at once.

Positioning, content, and communication

Our team works with clients all over the world to articulate their missions and convey their spirit to the public with a consistent point of view.

We’re involved in all aspects of design and communication:
We create brand identities, architectural signage, Web sites, exhibits, books, magazines, retail interiors, posters, packaging, naming programs, furniture, and environmental design programs.

Experience and recognition

Our company was founded in 1988 in New York City, where we spent our first several years working away in a cast iron building on lower Broadway. We’ve since relocated our HQ to a drafty green barn in Connecticut, where we look forward to coming in each day to do work we enjoy with people we like.

Our work is represented in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art, The Smithsonian Institution, and the Library of Congress. We have been honored with the Federal Design Achievement Award and Time magazine’s “Best of the Year” designation.

Alexander Isley is a 2014 recipient of the AIGA Medal, the highest honor of the design profession, awarded for distinguished achievement and contributions to the field.
